TenarisUniversity recently tapped into the
resources of employee experts at TenarisHickman to train then as instructors
for various courses. The initiative, called Train the Trainer, included
24 employees ranging from managers to shift leaders.
“The idea is to identify employees who are
considered experts in their field and turn them into instructors,” Desmond
Hammett, TenarisUniversity Analyst, said. “Cultivating good teachers will
be a valuable asset for TenarisUniversity and for Tenaris as a whole. Having
internal instructors helps us involve our employees in the development and
transfer of knowledge to our most valuable assets- our people.”
Turning to our employee experts to teach
courses helps continue individual employee development, Hammett added.
Matt Rolland, Heat Treatment Supervisor, said he had a great experience in
the training course. “I’m excited for the opportunity to be an instructor,” he
said. “My expertise ranges from heat treatment to upsetters to first aid.
Additionally, I also have experience in new hire transitioning. The more
knowledge you have the better you can teach employees.”
TenarisUniversity partnered with Arkansas
Northeastern College The Solutions group -instructor Jamie Frakes to
deliver the training. “I have taught a lot of these kind of classes in other
industries, but this class has been great because the participants have a lot
of energy. You can tell they will put what they are learning into practice,”
Frakes said. “Having instructors onsite is an important tool for continuing
knowledge sharing in the future.”
Date of Training: July 2015
