We are embarking down a path of great things. The Northeast Arkansas Community Correctional Center and Arkansas Northeastern College, The Solutions Group, have partnered to provide residents with a chance to learn a new skill. The residents spent 8 hours every Friday taking an Oxygen Acetylene Safety and Shielded Metal ARC welding partial joint penetration course. These two courses allowed the residents to earn college credit and learn hand- on skills as well as earn American Welding Society certifications at the end of the ten weeks. Ms. Janice Gray, NEACCC wrote this in regards to our course and instructor.
"The students in the December welding class went above
and beyond their scope of learning this semester. There were 10 students that
participated and 5 received their certifications. A grant was provided so the
residents did not have to pay for the class. The 5 certifications were paid for
by the family members of the residents. An initiative was shown so the family
members did not mind sending the cost of the certifications. The students spent
their Fridays welding and learning new skills. Mr. Brent Carroll, the
instructor played a big part in the success of the class. The students hold him
in HIGH REGARDS. Not only is he an excellent instructor, but he also lives what
he does. It shows when he is teaching class. Mr. Carroll made the students feel
extra proud when he attended a graduation ceremony held at NEACC honoring the
welding students. The look on their faces was priceless. Keep up the good work
Mr. Carroll. I hope that each class gets better than the one before." – Janice
Gray NEACCC.
January starts a new set of students. As of December 2015, there have been 20 residents complete these two classes and earn 5 hours of college credit.
Next class starts in January!
