Rural Development Partners (RDP) Grant to Fund Material
Handling Training: During their February 2016 meeting, the ANC Board of
Trustees accepted a grant of up to $180,000 from the Rural Development Partners
(RDP), a unique Community Development Entity certified and administered by the
United States Department of the Treasury. The focus of RDP is on operating
businesses that create significant, high quality jobs that are accessible to
Low-Income Persons or residents of Low-Income Communities in rural, highly
distressed areas. RDP works extensively with New Market Tax Credits (NMTC) in
carrying out its mission. RDP is working directly with Mid-River Terminal, a
new company located near Osceola to service Big River Steel, both with NMTC and
training funds. RDP is investing $90,000, matched with another $90,000 from
Mid-River Terminal, in customized training related to material handling.
Working with both RDP and Mid-River Terminal, The Solutions Group has developed
a Material Handling curriculum involving classroom training and hands-on usage
of equipment such as forklifts, rough-terrain lift trucks, aerial man-lifts,
scissor lifts, skid steer loaders, overhead cranes, backhoes, and
mini-excavators. The overall curriculum design consists of 112 to 128 clock hours
of training delivered over a 4-week period. The initial training budget calls
for eight iterations of the Material Handling training. The customized training
is scheduled to begin April 11th at Arkansas Northeastern College - Burdette Center. Although Mid-River Terminal is an
integral partner in the development and funding of the training, RDP policies
stipulate that all Low-Income Persons or residents of designated Low-Income
Communities will be eligible to participate in the training whether or not they
are current or potential employees of Mid-River Terminal.
Arkansas Northeastern College is currently taking applications for the Material Handling program. For more information please contact The Solutions Group 870.763.6222.
