Viskase- SMED Training - AEDC Manufacturing Solutions

The ANC Solutions Group partnered with Arkansas Economic Development Commission - Manufacturing Solutions to conduct a Setup Reduction and Quick Changeover workshop for Viskase Corp. AEDC - Manufacturing Solutions Conducted a two-day Setup Reduction and Quick Changeover workshop for selected Viskase team members at the Viskase plant in Osceola, AR.

"On March 3rd and 4th, Viskase team members conducted a focused improvement event on reducing the setup time of equipment in their finishing room. The cross-functional team consisted of operators, technicians, quality representatives, and area leaders. The goal of the event was to reduce the changeover time on a C-3 type changeover in the finishing room by fifty-percent or more. On day one the team trained on the concepts of quick changeover and SMED (single-minute exchange of die) concepts, then analyzed a video of the current changeover process. Each element of the changeover was documented and examined to determine whether it was a step that could be reduced, eliminated, or moved to an external activity to be done while the line was still running. On day two, the team developed a future-state optimized changeover script, then went to the line and executed the changeover according the new script. This changeover was filmed and reviewed for further improvement opportunities. The team was successful in accomplishing it’s goal, reducing the changeover time by slightly more than fifty-percent! This represents significant cost savings in terms of increased O.E.E. (overall equipment effectiveness) for the department. Congratulations to the Viskase Setup Reduction team! "

Definitely a training success story that utilized grant money from Great River Economic Development Foundation and Existing Workforce Training Program. With these two grants Viskase was able to obtain this training at zero cost to the company.

Thank you Viskase, Manufacturing Solutions, EWTP, & GREDF for your contribution to make this training possible.

"Viskase Osceola, benefited from the partnership established between ANC and AMS, to provide a win/win solution in the delivery of SMED training for the team.  The hands-on approach allowed for all to take part and benefited the group from an inclusion perspective. The approach was pivotal,  as this technique used in identifying productivity gains was new to the majority of the team.  Thanks again,"

"I believe going into this SMED training, everyone was skeptical that it would not work.  We have tried many different ways to improve our process and improve our changeover time but was never successful.  After working with ANC and AMS, this training opened our minds to the possibilities before us.  Things that we thought were impossible to achieve, we achieved in two days. Keith Gammill brought his “A” game to the training and taught us many things about the SMED process and how to pilot this with our diverse line of work.  The team responded greatly and we always appreciate the opportunity to be part of success!"
