NYS/Nucor Castrip "ride in a taxi cab"

Every year Nucor "shuts-down" production to perform routine maintenance on machines. This year, ANC Solutions Group was part of that "maintenance." On March 16th, Nucor Yamato Steel and Nucor Castrip participated in an eight hour Spectrum Development/Personality awareness and conflict management training, provided by Desmond Hammett.

Spectrum Development is a personality awareness program that allows individuals to identify themselves and learn how to put that knowledge into perspective in everyday life. There are two aspects to Full Color Spectrum. First is the interaction styles, introversion and extroversion, which describes the thinking process and energy source. The second reveals temperament colors, Blue, Green, Gold and Orange, which describe four distinct patterns of behavior.

The group initially identified if they were introverts or extroverts. Then they moved into the personality assessment where they identified what they perceive themselves as in the spectrum.  The different colors represent the following personality traits:

Blue
Nurturing
Communicative
Imaginative
Devoted
Empathetic
Genuine
Enthusiastic
Compassionate
Dramatic
Orange
Resourceful
Courageous
Flexible
Risk Taking
Adventurous
Spontaneous
Skillful
Generous

Green
Insightful
Conceptual
Analytical
Independent
Visionary
Abstract

Gold
Loyal
Committed
Accountable
Dependable
Decisive
Organized
Prepared

After learning about their personalities, the group worked on conflict resolution. They participated in a role-playing activity that allowed the group to practice conflict resolution by simulating a taxicab ride where the person driving the cab acted as a sounding board while the passenger talked about his or her conflicts. The driver offered feedback and utilized what was learned to restate the issue and offer suggestions on how to resolve the conflict.

Thank you NYS & Nucor Castrip & Randy Henderson for allowing us to train during your shutdown. ANC would like to extend thanks to Great River Economic Development Foundation for approving funding a portion of the training.
