Blytheville Leadership Institute class 2016-2017 tour Arkansas Northeastern College – Allied Technologies Division
Blytheville Leadership Institute class of 2016-2017 toured
Arkansas Northeastern College, Allied Technologies, Crisp Center and Acme
Center in November, 2016. This tour-included breakfast for thirty people and a
small introduction from Stacey Walker about the Crisp Center and Acme Center
along with the services provided by The Solutions Group and the Division of
Allied Technologies. Many of the Blytheville Leadership Participants have been
to the ANC Crisp Center for some of their employment training (WE LOVE TO HEAR
THAT). After breakfast, the group maneuvered around the Crisp Center in smaller
groups where they viewed stations displaying information about the different
ANC occupational programs.
Rob Semmel, Leadership/Mechanical Instructor, displayed a
station in the Mechanical Lab to demonstrate hydraulics training and it allowed
the participants to interact with ANC’s hydraulics/pneumatics trainer. Mr.
Semmel gave an overview of the mechanical, manufacturing, safety, and
hydraulics courses that are currently taught in the division.
Instructors Rick Sones and Steve Crosskno demonstrated electrical
components and incorporated an HVAC demonstration that illustrated the
interworking’s of an HVAC unit as well as explained what courses ANC can teach
in HVAC. The group asked questions about basic electricity and programmable
logic controllers and gained some valuable information on how the ANC HVAC
program is designed.
Instructor Brent Carroll provided a demonstration for the
participants on a virtual welder. This equipment simulates welding in different
processes on different types of material and allows the instructor to print a report
of what the student needs to do to improve his or her technique. The demo provided
an excellent avenue for staff to explain what ANC’s welding program can offer
to companies and individuals.
The group then toured the ACME center where ANC housed a
welding shop and its aviation division. Aviation Maintenance Instructor Frank
Hernandez led the tour, and the participants began asking questions and touring
the ACME Center. Then the group visited the main campus for a tour and provided
feedback regarding what they had observed. Participants reported that the hands-on
experience provided within the tours was very informative and they enjoyed the
mini-lectures provided by each instructors.
